Azadi Tower, Teheran, Iran
"For 45 years, Iran's most famous modern monument, the Azadi (Freedom) Tower in Tehran, has been the backdrop to every major news story coming out of the country...Hossein Amanat was a rising star in Iran's architectural scene when, in 1966, he won a national competition to design the monument...Its historical pull, he believes, lies in the tower's evolution as a 'symbol of Iran'...that is both intensely Iranian and Islamic at the same time." — BBC
Little known to most Iranians, the iconic monument was designed by a member of the Baha'i Faith, a religious minority the Islamic State considers heretical, and whose adherents are routinely harassed and imprisoned.

"What do we see here? In doing postcard searches on commercial sites, I couldn’t find many of the Baha’i House of Worship in Germany, (need to search in German, probably) in the town of Langenhain in the hills above Frankfort. But a search of the village name gave me this interesting view. It’s Hofheim-Langenhain im Taunus, with the Mother Temple of Europe in the background. I very much like that you can see the Baha’i Temple in context: the mountain, the fields, the town and the roads. Several German Baha’i national offices are in the buildings you see nearby, and it must be very nice to work and worship near this sweet village." From here
