Emmett Kelly Sweeping Up the Spotlight

After sweeping the light under the rug and getting the laugh, I would have started to walk away, stop, and then look back.  I would have returned to the rug and uncovered the light.  Then I would have swept it into a tiny spot, picked it up and put it in my breast pocket..

Backlots

Mayberry Set

When we were kids in the late 50's living in Burbank, we jumped the fence at Warner Bros. and snooped around the Western set. Same with the Disney backlot--lots of props for the movie "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" at the time.  There was even a 15 foot long wood model of the Nautilus used in filming.

We were going to pretend a gunfight on what I've learned was named Laramie Street on the Warner Bros. lot, but there was a guard at the other end walking in the same direction as we were. I don't think he saw us, but I'm not sure--we ran like hell and climbed the fence. I wish I had kept the script I found on a table in one of the structures.  Maverick? Colt .45? Sugarfoot?

The guard would have been at the end of the street--this was pretty much our view.

Looking the other way, you can see the mountain that has the Hollywood sign on the other side. We hiked up there once after seeing a scene from the TV show 'The Highway Patrol' where the bad guy tosses a bag of (fake) money in the air under the sign.

Times have changed, and security is much more sophisticated and necessary.  I don't think you can even get near the Hollywood sign, let alone a movie set.

Designing a Path

My study of landscape architecture introduced me to the challenge of planning the built environment in a way that harmonizes human activity with artistry. The practical side of the curriculum included learning the design process, plant materials, surveying, irrigation and graphic presentation.  The artistry came from within.

The brother of Andrea Zivari Giannoglou achieved the distinction of serving as a designer at the Baha'i World Center.
