A Glimpse of Akka, Israel

A GLIMPSE OF AKKA, ISRAEL

Akka in 1292

The deteriorated condition in the late 1800's.

Akka is revered as a sacred place for its association with Bahá'u'lláh, recognized by Baha'is as a Manifestation of God and the Promised One of all scripture.  Bahá'u'lláh's cell windows are on the upper right.  I stood at one of those windows, and saw the golden dome of the Shrine of the Báb, another place of pilgrimage for Bahá'is, on the slope of that mountain across the bay of Haifa.  There is a similar view, but just a glimpse, in a scene in the movie Exodus.

Some photographs from my pilgrimage in 1990.

Approaching the land gate.

I heard the Muslim call to prayer from upstairs at the House of Abbud, where for a time Bahá'u'lláh resided.
