Planted ten years ago, it took center stage for a week or so in the backyard this year.

The maple begins coloring just as the redbud peaks.

SPOTTED TOWHEE

Spied  Towhees scratching around under the bird feeder this morning.  This is the third consecutive year that I've recognized them visiting me in the Fall.  Attracting birds with seed and suet is a benefit of keeping my cat indoors.

The deteriorated condition in the late 1800's.

Akka is revered as a sacred place for its association with Bahá'u'lláh, recognized by Baha'is as a Manifestation of God and the Promised One of all scripture.  Bahá'u'lláh's cell windows are on the upper right.  I stood at one of those windows, and saw the golden dome of the Shrine of the Báb, another place of pilgrimage for Bahá'is, on the slope of that mountain across the bay of Haifa.  There is a similar view, but just a glimpse, in a scene in the movie Exodus.
