Mourning Doves

I've seen a few Mourning Doves in the backyard this week.  Perhaps they're the positive effect of the sparrows.  I need to take the good with the bad.

I'm with Colleen, though:  Their coo is haunting.

The messy gang of sparrows has returned, and they brought with them the dreaded pigeons.

House Finch

House Finches have been visiting me lately.  They have a very loud song for such a small bird, and they're relatively friendly.

Satelite Image of Soberanes Fire

This satellite image clearly shows the smoke plume from the Soberanes fire north of Big Sur, California at about 10 o'clock.  

 I would estimate the plume's length to be about eighty miles, almost reaching the warm Central Valley. Fog hugs the coast from the Golden Gate at the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula in the upper left corner to Point Conception in the south.
